Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) the world’s largest Open University, was established by an Act of Parliament in 1985. In recognition of its role as a world leader in distance education and open learning, the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada, has conferred an Award of Excellence. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the University with A++ grade in 2021. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) since its inception in 1985 has emerged as the world’s largest University, in terms of enrolment. In the past 36 years, since its establishment IGNOU has contributed significantly in democratizing higher education in the country thereby creating opportunities for lifelong learning. As per the mandate of the University it adopts a learner centric, flexible, and cost effective approach for imparting quality education, with a focus on equity, access and quality. IGNOU has been awarded A++ ranking by NAAC. IGNOU has been providing education to all through the extensive network of 67 Regional Centres and around 2100 Learner Support Centres. It has a significant International presence with 23 Overseas Study Centres spread in 15 countries. IGNOU believes in providing education to all and has been extending its outreach to learners in jail, rural/remote areas, PwD, defense personnel, SC/ST learners and transgender population.
